Description:
Large photograph, sight size 26x30". In a period silver-painted wood frame with plaque titled as above, framed size 29x33".
Historic photograph of the first round-the-world flight by a lighter than air craft. Hearst was the principal financier. Dunlap describes the circumstances of this picture: "The feat was performed in 27 days, 7 hours and 26 minutes, with three stops during the 19,500-mile record-breaking flight. It arrived over San Francisco on August 25 and on its way to Los Angeles dipped in salute to its sponsor as it passed over San Simeon...As the giant dirigible passed over the entrance to San Francisco Bay, a Hearst cameraman in an airplane photographed it...Hearst later had a copy of this historic photograph framed." Schwabacher-Frey, whose label shared with Sanborn-Vail, appears on the verso was a San Francisco publisher, printing firm, and art gallery. Purchased from the San Simeon warehouse in 1965, inventory #3133.
